My IBD Story

Black peg board spelling my IBD story in white letters

If you follow my Facebook page or Instagram, you’ll have seen that I’ve been in the hospital after having a few health problems. I’m back at home now and wanted to share what…

I recently got diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) where your small bowel becomes inflamed. Research hasn’t figured out what exactly causes the disease yet but most people think it may be an autoimmune response whereby the body stops recognising the natural bacteria in the gut and attacks it instead. I feel like IBD is a condition people can be slightly uncomfortable speaking about due to the fact that it deals with your bowels and poo. If I’m honest, when I first got my diagnosis I felt uncomfortable talking about it.

So let me walk you through what has happened up until now. In January 2018 I found that when I went to the loo I had bright red blood in my stools. This wasn’t just a one time thing either, it kept happening, and knowing that wasn’t a good sign I decided to make an appointment with my GP. My GP referred me to the hospital, specifically the bowel clinic, for a colonoscopy and I was booked in for March.

Only… I stopped bleeding. As suddenly as it had started it had stopped. I cancelled my clinic appointment not wanting to waste anyone’s time. I mean, why go through a colonoscopy when I didn’t need it anymore, right?

Barcelona Photo Diary

Me standing on a balcony in Parc Güell

We just got back from a family holiday over in Barcelona. Surprisingly, this was our first trip to Spain and I’m delighted to say that I had an amazing time. Barcelona truly took my breath away and I wanted to share some of the photos I took whilst away.

Gothic Quarter

Our first port of call was the Gothic Quarter. We were due to take a 2 hour walking tour around the area however we managed to miss it thanks to us all waking up a little later than expected. Oops! Instead we made our way over and had a wander with Sai giving us some facts she found on her phone. After some wandering we made out was to La Rambla to take a stroll.

Book Review: S.T.A.G.S by M.A. Bennett

S.T.A.G.S book cover

S.T.A.G.S by M. A Bennett is set in a private boarding school and follows Greer Macdonald as she begins her first scholarship year at the prestigious institute. Greer has moved from her public comprehensive school in Manchester to join the elite in a school that not only nurtures tradition but dies by it. She’s a misfit who finds herself isolated until she receives an invite for huntin’, shootin’, fishin’ from the Medievals (S.T.A.G.S prefects and popular kids) over half term weekend. But sometimes things truly are too good to be true…

A Letter To My Younger Self

Close up of a girl smiling on the beach as she brushes hair out of her face

Dear Zara,

Count yourself as blessed, your life is one that is full of love and laughter. I know that there were difficult times when you were not sure how to smile but you will come to understand that with good times also comes difficulty. It’s through that difficulty that life becomes all the more sweet.

You have never had trouble in making friends but in keeping them. As you grow older you will lose people from your life fast and hard but you need to understand that this is nothing personal. It is a natural part growing up. Your interests have started to change and there is less common ground to cover. In the long run, you will see that this is better than trying to maintain meaningless relationships with people. The loss of your friendship group makes you get involved with people who do not have your best interests at heart but you struggle to see that. Keep faith because you will and forgive yourself for not seeing it sooner.

Enamel Pin Wishlist with Old English Company *

Enamel pins on a white background. Tiger with the words 'Go Get 'Em'. Black banner with the gold word 'Hustle'. Black whale with silver words 'I Whaley Love You'. Words 'Coffee First'. Pink rectangle with gold words 'Squad Goals'

Since our little trip to Disneyland Paris, I’ve become obsessed with pins. I’m currently in the process of decorating my work lanyard and so I’m constantly on the hunt for some cute pins. So, when I found Old English Company and saw the array of enamel pins they had to offer, it took no time at all for me to fall in love. After having a browse I’ve put together a small wishlist of the pins I want from Old English Company.

1) Go Get ‘Em – I’m sure this is the cutest pin I’ve ever seen! Everyone needs a little motivating friend.

2) Hustle – When I want something I work hard for it. A constant reminder on the days I am procrastinating. You have to hustle hard for what you want.
